How to Install the Everpure EV979845 (SR-X Feeder Scale Inhibitor) System

Everpure EV979845 (SR-X Feeder Scale Inhibitor) System Installation

The Everpure EV979845 SR-X Feeder Inhibitor System reduces scale buildup and helps protect against corrosion in commercial warewashing, steam, and ice equipment.  The system is designed for foodservice operators and the maintenance staff who are responsible for keeping that equipment running.

A first-time Everpure EV979845 system installation takes an estimated 10–15 minutes. This guide walks through each stage, from choosing the mounting spot to the final leak check. Replacing the cartridge on time matters, because an overdue cartridge stops protecting the equipment from scale once its Hydroblend has fully dissolved.

Safety & Preparation

Choose the Mounting Location

Pick a wall or frame that can carry the SR-X Feeder at its full operating weight of 4 lb (1.8 kg), with room for the unit's 12.44" H x 5.16" W x 5.5" D (31.5 x 13.1 x 13.9 cm) footprint. The system mounts vertically, bowl hanging down, and needs 2-1/2 inches (6.35 cm) of open space beneath the cartridge so the cartridge can be replaced without removing the unit.

SR-X Feeder Dimensions

🔍 Operating limits: check that the supply line meets each of these before installation:

💧 Service flow: 6.0 gpm (22.7 Lpm) maximum
📈 Pressure: 10–125 psi (0.7–8.6 bar), non-shock
🌡️ Temperature: 35–100°F (2–38°C)
🔌 Electrical connection: not required

Both ports are 3/4" FNPT and are meant for a 3/4" water line. If your line is a different size, use the reducer bushings packed with the system rather than forcing a fitting.

⚠️ Safety Precautions

🚫 Only connect the system to water known to be microbiologically safe. Water that is unsafe or of unknown quality needs adequate disinfection before or after the system.
🚰 Close the water supply to the line before any work begins.
🧽 Deliming the connected equipment first is recommended, though not required.

Step-by-Step Installation

🔧 8 STEPS · ABOUT 10–15 MINUTES
1
Choose and Prepare the Location. Choose a spot that meets the weight, clearance, and orientation requirements in Safety & Preparation and stays easy to reach, since the cartridge needs regular inspection. If you plan to delime the connected equipment, do it before installing the system. Then shut off the water supply to the line and open a downstream fixture to release the remaining pressure.
2
Mount the Housing. Hold the housing in position with the inlet side toward the supply line and the outlet side toward the equipment. The dimension drawing in Safety & Preparation shows which side is which. Mark the mounting points and fasten the housing with hardware suited to the surface. Set the height so the required clearance stays open below the cartridge once the bowl is attached.
3
Lubricate the O-Ring. Unscrew the bowl from the housing. Check that the O-ring sits evenly in its groove and has no nicks or flat spots, then apply a light, even coat of O-ring lubricant. The spec sheet calls for this before the system is used, because the O-ring seals the bowl against the housing.
4
Seat the Cartridge and Spacer. Place the SS-IMF cartridge in the bowl with the included spacer, which adapts the cartridge to the length of the 10" bowl. Thread the bowl back onto the housing by hand, keeping it straight so the threads don't cross, until it is fully seated.
5
Connect the 3/4" Inlet and Outlet. Connect the supply line to the inlet and the equipment line to the outlet. Seal the threads with a sealant suited to potable water, and fit the included reducer bushings if your line size calls for them. Support the piping so its weight doesn't rest on the housing.
6
Confirm the Unit Is Vertical. Tightening the fittings can rotate or tilt the housing, so check it again now. The unit should stand vertical with the bowl hanging straight down and the clearance below still open.
7
Restore the Water Supply. Open the supply valve slowly so the housing fills gradually and trapped air escapes through the open downstream fixture. A slow opening also avoids a pressure surge through the new connections. Close the fixture once water runs steadily.
8
Check for Leaks. With the system under pressure, check the inlet, the outlet, and the bowl seal for drips. A leak at the bowl usually points to the O-ring or bowl seating, covered in Common Installation Mistakes. Once everything stays dry, continue to the start-up checks in What to Expect After Installation.

Common Installation Mistakes

The red cards below cover mistakes that should never happen. The amber cards cover mistakes that can be corrected after installation, with the fix for each. Requirements already covered in another section are linked rather than repeated.

🚫
Operating Outside the Rated Limits

The spec sheet sets a maximum service flow plus pressure and temperature ranges, and the pressure must be non-shock. Confirm the line meets every limit in Safety & Preparation before the system goes into service, not after.

🧱
Mounting on a Surface That Can't Carry the Weight

A filled system is heavier than the empty unit, and the spec sheet calls for a location that supports it at full operating weight. If a surface is questionable, choose another that meets the requirement in Safety & Preparation.

📐
Unit Not Vertical or Bowl Not Hanging Down

A tilted, sideways, or inverted unit doesn't meet the spec sheet's mounting requirement. Shut off the water, then remount the system in the orientation given in Safety & Preparation.

↕️
Not Enough Clearance Below the Cartridge

If the space underneath is too tight, the next cartridge replacement becomes difficult. Move the unit higher or clear the area below until it meets the clearance in Safety & Preparation.

💧
Skipping O-Ring Lubrication

A dry O-ring may not seal properly at the bowl. Shut off the water, remove the bowl, lubricate the O-ring, and seat it back in its groove. Replace it if it shows damage. Then reattach the bowl securely.

🔗
Wrong Line Size or Missing Reducer Bushings

The ports are sized for a specific line, listed in Safety & Preparation. If your line doesn't match, shut off the water and fit the reducer bushings that come with the system instead of forcing a connection.

What to Expect After Installation

Start-Up Checks

Once the water supply is back on, look over the inlet connection, the outlet connection, and the bowl for any sign of moisture. Repeat the check after the equipment downstream has drawn water for a few cycles. Start-up involves no electrical hookup, since the system has none (see Safety & Preparation).

Confirm that water reaches the equipment at a steady rate within the limits in Safety & Preparation, and that the housing is still firmly mounted and upright. Sort what you find using the two columns below:

✅ Normal After Installation

🔒 Dry connections at the inlet, outlet, and bowl
🚰 Consistent flow reaching the equipment
📐 Housing fixed in place and standing vertical
🧩 Bowl fully reattached, with the cartridge seated as in step 4

🔎 Worth a Second Look

💧 Beads of water or damp spots at a fitting or the bowl
📉 Flow that drops off, pulses, or stops
↘️ A housing that leans or shifts on its mount
🌀 A bowl that isn't fully tightened

The system is ready for service when every item in the left column holds. For anything in the right column, go to Troubleshooting & FAQ. From here, the cartridge needs regular inspection, as set out in When to Replace Your Filter Cartridge.

Official Product Resources

Everpure's EV9798-45 spec sheet is the official reference for this system. It lists the service flow rate, pressure and temperature ranges, dimensions, operating weight, connection sizes, and the replacement cartridge part number, along with Everpure's installation and operation tips.

When to Replace Your Filter Cartridge

The SR-X Feeder has no fixed replacement date. How long a cartridge lasts depends on how quickly its Hydroblend compound dissolves at your site, so the schedule is driven by regular inspection:

🗓️
Inspect Every Six Months

Check the SS-IMF cartridge at least once every six months, and more often if you see it emptying quickly.

💧
Replace Before the Compound Runs Out

Install a new cartridge while some Hydroblend is still left. Once it has completely dissolved, scale protection stops.

📊
Usage Sets the Pace

Two sites with the same system can need replacements at different times, so go by what each inspection shows.

🔍 Translucent cartridge: the SS-IMF body is translucent, so each inspection is a visual check of how much Hydroblend remains.

The replacement cartridge is the Everpure SS-IMF (EV979932), sold here as a 12-pack. For a set-it-and-forget-it approach, the optional subscription ships a 12-pack every 12 months so a spare cartridge is already on site when an inspection calls for one. The subscription handles supply only. Your inspections still decide when each cartridge is replaced.

How to Replace the Cartridge

  1. Close the water supply to the line.
  2. Remove the bowl and take out the used SS-IMF cartridge.
  3. Check the O-ring. Lubricate it, and replace it if it is worn or damaged.
  4. Place the new SS-IMF cartridge and the spacer in the bowl.
  5. Reattach the bowl securely, keeping the unit vertical with the bowl hanging down.
  6. Restore the water supply and run the checks in What to Expect After Installation.

How to Maximize the Lifespan of Your Filter

A few routine habits keep the SR-X Feeder working as intended and make each cartridge replacement easier:

  • Inspect on schedule: check the cartridge at the interval set in When to Replace Your Filter Cartridge, and look at how much Hydroblend remains each time.
  • Check more often at heavier-demand sites: where water hardness, alkalinity, TDS, or temperature runs higher, shorten the time between inspections.
  • Keep the clearance open: don't let supplies or equipment fill the space below the cartridge.
  • Look for leaks: check the inlet, outlet, and bowl for moisture during each routine check.
  • Stay inside the operating limits: keep flow, pressure, and temperature within the ranges in Safety & Preparation.
  • Keep the housing accessible and clean: an unobstructed, clean exterior makes inspections and replacements quicker.

Replace each cartridge before its Hydroblend is gone, using the guidance in When to Replace Your Filter Cartridge.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

What does the SR-X Feeder do, and how does Hydroblend work?

The SR-X Feeder reduces scale and helps protect against corrosion in commercial warewashing, steam, and ice equipment. Its SS-IMF cartridge holds Hydroblend, a polyphosphate blend, and the patented design releases a controlled amount into the water for long-term protection.

What does the NSF/ANSI 42 certification cover?

The SS-IMF cartridge is certified under NSF/ANSI Standard 42 for material requirements only.

How long does Everpure EV979845 system installation take?

An estimated 10 to 15 minutes for a first-time installation. Each step is laid out in Step-by-Step Installation.

How should the system be oriented, and how much clearance does it need?

Install it vertically with the bowl hanging down, and leave 2-1/2 inches (6.35 cm) of clear space below the cartridge so it can be replaced easily.

What line size does the system need?

A 3/4-inch water line. The inlet and outlet are 3/4-inch FNPT, and optional reducer bushings are included.

Do I need to delime my equipment first?

Deliming the equipment before installation is recommended but not required.

How do I know when to replace the cartridge?

Inspect the SS-IMF cartridge at least every six months, and replace it before the Hydroblend compound has completely dissolved. Because the cartridge is translucent, each inspection shows how much compound is left. The full schedule is in When to Replace Your Filter Cartridge.

Does the system need electricity?

No. The SR-X Feeder requires no electrical connection.

Why is the bowl or a connection leaking?

Shut off the water. Check that the O-ring is lubricated, seated, and undamaged, and that the bowl is fully reattached. Then check the inlet and outlet fittings.

Why is flow low?

First, make sure the water supply is fully turned back on. Then confirm that demand on the line stays at or below 6.0 gpm and that pressure is within 10–125 psi. If both check out, shut off the water and confirm the cartridge and spacer are seated correctly. The full operating limits are in Safety & Preparation.

Can the system be used on unsafe or unknown-quality water?

No. Do not use it on water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection before or after the system.
