Zurn Wilkins TG-5 Installation Instructions

The Zurn Wilkins TG‑5 Backflow Prevention Assembly Test Kit is designed for testing Reduced Pressure Principle Assemblies, Double Check Valve Assemblies, and Pressure Vacuum Breakers. It ensures compliance with ASSE, AWWA, and FCCCHR standards.


Key Installation Requirements:


  • Connect hoses securely to test cocks before pressurizing
  • Use differential pressure gauge with 5 soft‑seated needle valves
  • Flush test cocks before attaching hoses to remove debris
  • Maintain proper calibration of gauge (annual recheck required)
  • Follow local codes and testing requirements

Important Notes Before Installing/Using:


  • Do not operate without proper training or certification
  • Always depressurize system before disconnecting hoses
  • Relief valve opening point must be observed and recorded
  • Check valves must hold tight against reverse flow
  • Always refer to the official Zurn Wilkins TG‑5 Spec Sheet for specifications

Basic Installation & Testing Overview:


  1. Flush water through test cocks #1–#4 to remove foreign material
  2. Connect high side hose to #2 test cock and low side hose to #3 test cock
  3. Bleed air from hoses and gauge using bleed needle valves
  4. Close #2 shutoff valve and observe pressure drop across #1 check valve
  5. Bypass water between #2 and #3 test cocks to observe relief valve opening
  6. Test #2 check valve for tightness against reverse flow
  7. Record static pressure drop across #1 check valve (≥5.0 psid required)
  8. Complete additional tests for Double Check Valve and Pressure Vacuum Breaker assemblies as outlined in manual
