The Zurn RK7000-50 replaces the complete control stem in a Temp-Gard® I shower valve and installs from the front of the valve by removing the bonnet. Professional installation by a licensed plumber or trained maintenance technician is recommended to ensure the stem is seated correctly and the valve maintains proper pressure-balancing performance.
Key Installation Requirements:
- Existing Zurn Temp-Gard® I valve (Z7100, Z7120, Z7200, or Z7220 Series)
- Water shut off at the valve's integral service stops
- Access to the valve after removing the handle and cover plate
- Maximum valve operating pressure of 125 PSI
Important Notes Before Installing the RK7000-50:
- Open the valve to the full hot position before removing the bonnet to avoid distorting the control stem.
- Do not tamper with the control spindle or attempt to remove the piston.
- While the valve is open, inspect the seats and seat O-ring. Worn seats require the RK7000-180 seat replacement kit and RK7000-18TOOLS (or RK7000-18TOOL) seat tools.
Basic Installation Overview:
- Shut off the water to the valve using the service stops.
- Back out the adjustment screw until the O-ring is fully exposed.
- Turn the valve to full hot and unscrew the bonnet. The old control stem comes out with the bonnet. Leave the packing nut in place.
- Loosen the packing nut before inserting the new control stem to protect the packing components.
- Lubricate the new stem's shaft threads with the included lubricant packet, then insert it into the bonnet.
- Reassemble the valve, open the service stops, and test for consistent temperature and leaks.
