The Pentair 158840 F3000-B2B is a 3-stage under-sink filtration system that connects to your cold water supply line and includes its own dedicated drinking water faucet. It reduces chlorine taste and odor, lead, VOCs, PFAS, and microplastics, and most installations take under an hour.
Before You Begin
- Tools needed: safety glasses, an adjustable wrench, a tube cutter or utility knife, a hand or electric drill (cordless recommended), a file, and a 1/4" drill bit. If your sink doesn't already have a hole for a separate faucet, you'll also need a center punch, a 3/4" drill bit or hole saw, and a 3/32" drill bit.
- Safety first: For cold water use only, and for standard under-sink installation on 1/2"-14 NPS threads or 3/8" x 3/8" compression fittings. Do not use with water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection before or after the system. Protect the system from freezing to prevent cracking and leaks.
- Cartridges: The F3000-B2B uses the F2B2-RC2 cartridge set plus the F1S5-RC sediment cartridge, both of which come pre-installed in the correct sequence.
Step-by-Step Installation Guide
- Turn off the cold water supply line (install a shut-off valve under the sink first if one isn't already there), then open the cold water faucet to drain any remaining water from the line. Disconnect the riser from the cold water supply valve, make sure the sealing gasket is fully seated in the feed adapter valve, then hand-tighten the feed adapter valve onto the supply valve and connect the riser to it.
- Choose a faucet location with a flat, secure surface. Most sinks have a pre-drilled 1-3/8" or 1-1/2" hole you can use; otherwise, drill a 3/4" hole using a center punch and pilot hole first, then smooth the edges with a file.
- Wrap the faucet stem with 3-5 wraps of plumber's tape, assemble the faucet, and screw the quick connector onto the threaded end of the stem. Push the blue tubing into the connector (wetted, up to the 5/8" mark), feed the tubing and faucet through the sink hole, then center and tighten the faucet with the slotted disc, washer, and stem nut.
- Mount the system vertically in a solid, level location under the sink, leaving room below the cartridges for future replacements, then drill pilot holes and secure the mounting bracket.
- Connect the blue tubing from the faucet to the outlet (right) side of the system, and the white tubing from the feed adapter to the inlet (left) side — wetting each tube end and pushing it in to the 5/8" mark without kinking or crimping.
- Slowly turn on the cold water supply and open the feed adapter valve, then open the faucet and flush the system for 20 minutes, discarding the water. Check all fittings for leaks before finishing up. (Carbon fines — a fine black powder — may appear at first; keep flushing until the water runs clear.)
