The Everpure EV910541 (SO-10), also listed as the Pentair EV910541, is a 10" drop-in ion exchange softening replacement cartridge for Everpure Costguard softening housings. It reduces scale-forming minerals like calcium and magnesium, helping protect espresso machines, specialty coffee and tea brewers, and warewashing equipment from limescale buildup and corrosion. It is rated for 750 grains of hardness removal at a maximum service flow of 2.0 GPM.
Step-by-Step Replacement Guide
- Shut off the water supply to the housing and relieve pressure by opening a nearby faucet or the housing's pressure-relief button until flow stops. Place a bucket under the housing to catch residual water.
- Unscrew the sump (bowl) from the filter head by hand, turning it counter-clockwise, then remove the old SO-10 cartridge from inside the sump.
- Inspect the O-ring on the sump for wear or debris, and clean, lubricate, or replace it as needed to ensure a proper seal.
- Drop the new SO-10 cartridge into the sump, then thread the sump back onto the filter head by hand until snug. Do not use a housing wrench.
- Turn the water supply back on slowly and check the sump and fittings closely for leaks.
- Flush the cartridge at full flow for 3 minutes to purge air and loose resin fines before returning the system to service.
